Sand Mill Selection Guide: Disc, Rod-Pin, Turbine or Basket?
10/4/2026

The sand mill is the core wet-grinding machine for coatings, inks, color pastes and new materials. Wrong selection causes unqualified fineness, insufficient capacity or excessive energy use, so selection must be based on systematic process evaluation.
Select by Target Fineness
By target fineness: for conventional 5-25μm, disc-type mills (such as the TSM sealed horizontal mill) offer the best value; for sub-micron or nano-grade fineness, choose rod-pin (TDB) or turbine (TTN) nano sand mills with high energy density and narrow distribution.
Select by Viscosity and Process Continuity
By viscosity and continuity: high-viscosity pastes favor machines with strong pumping or circulation grinding; for small-batch multi-variety production with frequent color changes, basket mills (LS) need no piping and clean easily; for large continuous output, high-flow models (TDP) come first.
Grinding Media and Cooling Capacity Matter Too
Grinding media (zirconia beads) are equally critical: bead size must match target fineness (0.3-1.0mm for nano grinding), with loading typically 60%-80% of chamber volume. When selecting, evaluate media options and cooling capacity together, and run process trials when necessary.

TDP High-Flow Sand Mill (Disc Type)
New high-flow model. High-efficiency discs, super-large centrifugal wheels and screens distribute grinding beads evenly; centrifugal dynamic screens boost flow with safe bead separation. Variable-frequency drive throughout.

TDB Nano Sand Mill (Rod Pin Type)
Designed to advanced European standards with ample flow, excellent temperature control and high energy efficiency, achieving narrow particle size distribution at nano grade. Widely used in ceramics, inks, lithium battery materials, electronic slurries, nano pastes and pesticides.

TTN Nano Sand Mill (Turbine Type)
Ideal for single/multi-pass or circulation processes. The turbine accelerator drives powerful hydraulic bead movement with constant energy input - high efficiency, low energy uptake, handling low-to-high viscosity and temperature-sensitive products with the narrowest particle distribution.

TSM Sealed Horizontal Sand Mill (Disc Type)
Boosts throughput and cuts energy consumption, achieving 5-25μm fine grinding in one pass. No metal contamination, stable color; eliminates separator clogging and seal leakage shutdowns. Durable, stable core components.

LS Series Basket Mill
Combines milling and dispersing in one machine with low energy consumption, high efficiency, easy operation, maintenance, cleaning and color change. Works with independent tanks for low/high-viscosity pastes.

S Series Three-Roll Mill
Welded high-quality steel plate body with oil-immersed gear drive and gear handwheel. Attractive, easy to operate, long service life - especially for grinding high-viscosity products requiring fine particle size.
